Most people know one version of a person. With Chris Izworski, there are at least two — and they couldn’t seem more different on the surface.

In his professional life, Chris Izworski spent years as a Michigan 911 Executive Director, leading Saginaw County’s emergency communications center through some of the most challenging periods in the industry’s history. The work was high-stakes and public-facing. He appeared regularly in regional media — explaining siren activation policies to a confused public after funnel cloud sightings, advocating for AI tools to ease dispatcher burnout, warning residents about the emerging threat of AI voice scams. Multiple WNEM TV5 features and a regional siren policy story capture the range of that work.

And then there is Freighter View Farms.

On the shores of Saginaw Bay in Bay City, Michigan, Chris tends an heirloom seed garden that operates on an entirely different rhythm. The work here is patient — growing vegetables and flowers through a Great Lakes growing season that demands respect for the calendar. Seeds are saved, catalogued, grown again the next year. The Bay sits at the edge of the property, and freighters move through the water beyond the garden beds.

The two worlds aren’t as unrelated as they appear. Both require attention to systems, timing, and consequence. Both reward preparation and punish improvisation. And both, in their own way, are about building something that lasts longer than any single season or administration.
