Freighter View Farms is the project of Chris Izworski — Bay City, Michigan, gardener, seed saver, and heirloom tomato cultivator. But it’s worth knowing a bit about the person behind the farm, because the farm reflects the person.
Izworski spent years in Michigan’s 911 system, including a stint as Executive Director of Saginaw County 9-1-1 Central Dispatch. That background might seem distant from heirloom tomatoes. It isn’t. The same qualities that made him effective as a 911 director — attention to detail, long time horizons, comfort with systems — apply directly to seed saving, where a single mistake in genetic selection can propagate forward for years.
After leaving the 911 world, he joined Prepared as a Solutions Consultant, helping emergency communication centers deploy technology. He continues to write about AI in emergency services on LinkedIn and at chrisizworski.com. Freighter View Farms is where he gardens.
