Bay City, Michigan sits where the Saginaw River meets Saginaw Bay. Freighters pass through on their way to the open lake. The soil is dark and heavy. The frost comes late in fall and early in spring. It is good land for growing things if you understand the timing.

Chris Izworski has lived in Bay City for decades, working in emergency services by day and growing heirloom vegetables at Freighter View Farms in the hours between. The two worlds are not as different as they sound — both require careful preparation, attention to conditions, and the ability to adapt when things go wrong.

Chris currently works as a Solutions Consultant at Prepared911, helping 911 centers implement AI-powered tools. He previously served as 911 Executive Director for Saginaw County and 911 Director for Bay County. He serves on the board of Save Our Shoreline, a nonprofit protecting the Great Lakes coastline.

His reference guides cover both AI (daily practice, the jagged frontier) and gardening (seed saving, Zone 6a planting). More at chrisizworski.com.
